Auto Glass Installation

What you should know about safe windshield installations

Your car has been built to not only provide a means of transportation but to also help protect you in the event of an accident. Some repair work done to your car is regulated by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) to ensure that all parts and their installation meet the required performance requirements that contribute to your safety. Your factory installed windshield is secured to the body of your car by special designed auto glass adhesives that have been tested and approved to meet all applicable FMVSS requirements.

Your windshield is classified a "safety device" because it provides structural strength to your car body, helps keep passengers inside the car if an accident should occur, and supports the inflation and performance of passenger side airbags. As important as the windshield quality, so too is the quality and proper installation of the auto glass adhesive.

Save a windshield, plant a tree — it all adds up to a greener world

It's the same old, sad story. First you notice a small chip in your windshield, then a crack, then an even bigger crack. And when you can't ignore it any longer, you file a claim and have the entire windshield replaced.

But now this sad story can have a happy ending, and it all depends on you. Instead of having your windshield replaced, you can simply have it repaired. It's safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly. What could be better than that? Plus, when you repair instead of replace through the Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree program, we'll plant a tree in your name.

Windshield Repair
A Safe, No-Cost Option

You could be driving along a country road or a highway when a stone kicks up and hits your windshield. If you’re lucky, it will bounce off the glass without any damage. If you’re not, it may cause a small star-shaped crack or circular chip in the glass.

If you find a chip or a crack shorter than the length of a dollar bill, there’s a good chance your windshield can be repaired—at no cost to you.* Why repair your windshield rather than replace it?

Here are a few benefits to consider:

Why Windshields Are An Important Safety Feature

When it comes to driving we all want to be safe in our vehicles. As new technology continues advancing we have seen new safety features evolve.

Most of us can easily tell a vehicle's most obvious safety features, which include parts like seatbelts, airbags, tire pressure, and tire tread. We all strive to ensure that these items are kept up to standard, both to prevent accidents from occurring, as well as to protect us fully in the unexpected event of an accident.

Windshields are two-ply glass and lamination, which means that they have two layers of glass. Because of the lamination it is very costly and almost impossible to recycle. It has been reported that, on average, it takes 15.2 million BTU's of energy to create 1 ton of glass. The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation reported that this leads to 285 pounds of mining waste as well as 28 pounds of air pollutants. While it is impossible to eliminate the waste resulting from this process, by decreasing the needs for new windshields, this process can be minimized, which is exactly what repair does.
